Book Clubs

By Thomas Rogers

We are often told that reading is very important for us. It improves our vocabulary, keeps our brains active and gets us away from the constant digital distractions of modern life. However, many of us would rather be in bars in London or hosting parties, instead of staying in bed reading a novel.

So how can we read and stay entertained? You could take a glossy, gossipy fashion magazine around to the fancy, high class and posh top restaurants, bars and night clubs, but it wouldn't really look very sophisticated. However, you could always go to a book club! Here you are encouraged to read and can discuss the book at a brand new social hangout.

Not so long ago, if you were a member of a book club, you would meet up with fellow members in the front room of an elderly couple's house and talk about books between sips of tea and mouthfuls of crumpet. But now, instead of home baking, refreshments for book club meetings in great social hotspots and even in exclusive members clubs now include wine and canaps. Those days of tea, books and scones look like they're over.

So does that mean books have become an expensive hobby? Not at all: books are a cost-effective way of improving your memory, building your self-esteem and keeping yourself entertained. You also get to save on soft drinks and popcorn, because in most cases books are so much better than the movies made from them.

So next time it's a toss-up between a nestling in to a good book and a good, vibrant and tiring social life, always remember that you can combine the two by joining a book society and becoming part of your own VIP members club.

Make The Most Of KDP Select

By John Boyd

How Can Amazon's KDP Select Program Help Authors Succeed?

Many authors are still pretty ambivalent about the Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) Select program. The program does allow independently published authors a chance to leverage some of the marketing power of the book selling giant. Yet, the program also forces authors to only sell their books on Amazon for as long as they stay in the program. I am not trying to convince anybody to use KDP Select, but I believe I can offer some suggestions that will help you use the program effectively and also to understand the benefits.

Here are the major benefits. You are free to offer your book for free for 5 days during each ninety day period. This can give your book, and your author name, a lot of extra exposure. Amazon will also put your book in the lending library. Authors do not get paid on free downloads, but they do get paid on the free borrows!

Why Give Your Book Away For Free?

We would all like to get paid for all of our hard work. On the other hand, setting a book's price to free for a period of time is a great way to get a lot of extra attention! This works the best if you also have other books. A reader may download your free book, like your work, and buy your other books!

Amazon Prime members get to borrow one book for free each month. As the number of Kindles has grown, a lot more people are taking advantage of the lending library too. I have found that the percentage of paid borrows is growing each month. This can be a nice source of revenue. Depending upon your book price, you may make more for a paid borrow than you do for a sale.

Free downloads do not count as sales, but they can push you up in the popularity lists. They can also give your book a lot more suggestion in some other book lists.

Many book reviewers take advantage of free promo days too. This gives authors a good opportunity to let reviewers know that there book is scheduled for a free promotion. This means you have a better chance to have your book mentioned on other websites and blogs.

There are also a lot of websites that list free books. Some of these websites get a lot of traffic, and this is a good way to spread the word about all of your books. Thousands of book lovers will learn your name.

Essay Writing Tips

By Miriam Marom

Think About The Topic As A Whole

When deciding upon the body of your essay itself, it is essential to think of the essay as a whole and after that split it up into smaller, more manageable areas.. Make sure you have a certain way of how you see the topic you have to write about. Take into account what can you connect with within the topic and are there any elements of the topic that you can compare with your life. This continuous thought process can help you concentrate on the topic and this assists you to start your essay writing process even before you put your pen to paper.

If you are wondering: \'how am I going to write my paper?\' then this is the answer.

Write A Couple Of Ideas Right Away

After being seated and thinking about the topic in general, it's a wise course of action to simply jot some ideas down about what just ran through your head concerning the topic of the essay. I usually use this tip when I write my paper. This will likely put your thoughts into a cohesive illustration which can be analyzed by you. Using this method you can read the important points and determine what is best for the essay itself.

Don't Force Yourself To Finish The Essay All At Once

As most people don't really know what they wish to concentrate on when writing an essay, the essay writing process must be a step-by-step course of action. Writing is a method that takes time and an aspect of an open mind, so don't pressure yourself. Have a snack or surf the Internet when you've got troubles with creating. Occasionally the very best ideas come to people because they took a break and they are sitting there doing something different and a good idea just hits them. Don't pressure yourself too much and just let the ideas come to you.

Start Writing The Essay Immediately

In case you wait to the last second and waste time, your essay writing will most likely suffer and it will take you much longer to actually compose the essay itself. My personal opinion is that this is among the best tips for writing your paper I could give you. This is actually the best writing tip for a very simple reason - unless you leave a sufficient quantity of time to complete your essay, you are going to start to stress out and you'll realize that your essay is not very cohesive since your brain is no longer working in good condition. Because of this , you should get to work without delay. You don't have to start actually writing the essay itself, but merely start contemplating what you are going to write, what the topic signifies and maybe even writing down some notes. It is a great way to start contemplating about your essay, put it into your train of thought and wait for the ideas to come through.

Find A Person To Go Through Your Work

The great thing you can do once your essay has been written would be to have at least one person read it. Probably the most vital point of an excellent essay is that it makes sense generally, so you should ask at least one other person if reading your essay made sense for them, including all the points you've made and all the facts you stated.

Too Much Month At The End Of The Money?

By Scott Shimberg

Do you know people who find themselves looking for jobs, or maybe their present jobs can't handle their everyday expenses? Are they your friends, your family, your neighbors?

Wouldn't you want to help them to develop their existing financial reality? By taking action, every person can take control of their life and look after their families easily.

Last year, my husband Scott, was introduced to the Numis opportunity. He knew it was a no brainer! A business opportunity, without the need of capital outlay, with an incredible compensation program, Accumulating assets of gold and silver, along with a 5-year buy-back assurance. What other business opportunity offers something like this? Just how can someone NOT take this opportunity?

I had been a little slower to catch on to the chance and how it can impact us. I had a traditional job that I enjoyed that needed prospecting and I had been hesitant to have to do it after work too. Scott was calmly persistent, realizing I would come around. I soon discovered the difference between a J-O-B and what we certainly have now......

Gathering assets and creating a recurring income stream was very logical, but what caught me most was the positive change this industry is having on my husband. He is exercising every day, something I have attempted to get him to do for years! He is reading and listening to great personal growth learning things like Tony Robbins incantations and Books by Darren Hardy. As the economy continued to be in downfall, he remained positive. If interactions with friends get negative about all of the "negative noise" out there, he talks about collecting assets with a sincere smile, glimmer in his eye and positive energy.

Everybody needs hope - Hope that their home loan can get paid and meals can be put on the table for dinner. Hope that a family vacation this year could be possible. Hope that money can be saved for our children to go to college. Hope that a pension savings may be put away and we don't have to work until we are 80 (unless we want to).

Let's turn that Hope into reality. Collect assets and build an income stream with like-minded people who want to help you succeed. People who want to provide you the training so that you can be successful. People who are as interested in Personal Development, as they improve themselves on a daily basis as they are on the road to financial and time freedom.

Until the Next Time

Child Abuse Survivor Stories Can Be Horrific

By Sharlene Fleming

Now the public is hearing the many child abuse survivor stories there are to tell. Innocent children are no longer expected to remain quiet while the victimization continues. This was not the case with victims not all that long ago.

One of the most common threads is the self shame that these people share. Even into adulthood many will speak of feeling that they deserved the punishment. Something they did had to have been very wrong or these acts would not have been performed. As much as they despise the abuse, they continually try to make up for whatever wrong they did and get their abusers to love them.

Not all mistreatment is done by sexual or physical means. Many children receive no bruises whatsoever. Yet they are as distraught and victimized as others with horror stories to tell. They receive so much emotional degradation that they begin believing they are useless and no good. Again they will persistently work at 'making themselves better' so the torment will stop.

Another common trait among abused children is that the perpetrator is most often a family member or a close and trusted friend. It could be a parent; a relative; a pastor or priest, or a person that has been a family friend for years. Victims do not know who to tell due to shame or graphic threats against them or a loved one.

A person can be a highly respected member of the community. They may be married with children and be a model parent. These perpetrators take their deeds away from home to keep their reputation from being tarnished. They use the internet as a means of weaving their deceit and luring children to them. Parents are urged to keep a close watch on the people their child talks with. Despite any rules you have set, these men and women are experts in what they do.

Boys are not immune to the vile practices of the child abuser. The latest reports on the misconduct of clergy testifies to that. Men who feared speaking up are still coming forth to say they had been victimized. All that can be said for sure is that these actions have been going on for years and years.

If adults do nothing else, they must listen and learn from the young victim. Much can be done to help people in recognizing that something is not right. Begin at an early age to tell your child what improper behavior is, and that they must tell someone right away if it happens. Rarely do these children lie.

It is crucial to the proper development of any child that parents and other close family members are constantly on the look out for what may be indications that something is remiss. Sex and physical offenders are people that are suffering their own psychological disorders and they need to be stopped before any further harm is done. Children will shy away from their offenders out of fear and that fear should be obvious to the onlooker. Always give your child permission to relate any child abuse survivor stories they may have to tell.

Let's take a Look at Leadership Under The Hood...

By Heidi Shimberg

They say some individuals are simply "Born Leaders." As a kid, my mom and many other people used to tell me that I was a "natural born leader." The way my mother tells it, I was 7 in Girl Scouts and she came to watch a production that the Scouts put on. She asked the mother in control at the end of the production just how it was put together and she said, "Heidi have written it, directed in it and starred in it." My proud mother immediately proclaimed, "she's a born leader."

Despite my mom's urban legend, I simply don't believe that people are really born leaders. True leadership requires an intense understanding of exactly what others need, want and envision - we are simply not born with this cognitive ability. However I DO think that there are lots of leaders in our everyday lives, individuals which we may not identify as leaders, but their leadership is obviously present.

John Quincy Adams once said, "If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader."

Who does this make you think of?

I think of a Parent.

Our children do not know what they really want as infants, we pave the way of Possibility in front of them to inspire them to DREAM. We provide them the resources to go to school and train them at home so they continually LEARN. We inspire our children to always DO more. We encourage our children to BECOME all that they can be. The Leadership Role we have as parents within our homes is more significant than any other role we play.

In searching for a leader in the MLM business I look for people who exemplify what books by John Maxwell said,

"Leaders must be close enough to relate to others, but far enough ahead to motivate them."

Personally, I want a leader who has walked in my shoes, was battling to attain fame and can bask with me in the glory of my accomplishment. The characteristics of good leaders I have experienced at Numis Network are people who inspire me, relate to me and encourage me.

It's not about being born a leader, it's really about Seeing It, Believing It, and Walking the walk, Talking the talk, and Leading the Team down the Road into its Future. A Very Bright Future!

Until the Next Time
